Study of ovine cysticercosis in two slaughterhouses in the north of Algeria

A total of 10696 randomly selected sheep have been collected in two slaughterhouses the north Algeria (El Harrach and Boufarik) to determine prevalence ovine cysticercosis, find out association between potential risk factors as well assess distribution C. tenuicollis ovis surface’s muscles, viscera cavities (abdominal, thoracic pelvic) slaughtered sheep. Sheep were native breedsand originated from different sub-districts within municipality its environs. All carcasses visually carefully inspected. Ovine cysticercosis was found 461 (4.31%). There Cysticercus with respectively, 2.25% 2.06% prevalence. The significantly higher (p<0.0001) females than males while all positive for tenuicollissheep male. both species increased age, difference statistically significant (p<0.0001). For ovis, it didn’t season, but, incidence autumn. detected cysts non-viable, more frequently heart (51.82%) followed by diaphragm (30.77%) esophagus (17.41%). predominant localization liver (57.71%) omentum (42.29%), however, no vesicle observed peritoneum.
